Instructor-Led Learning Sample

The Problem: Faculty members at a community college in the southwest reported that student papers showed an alarming increase in plagiarism. They felt that students lacked the ability to appropriately use the ideas and words of others within their own writing.

My Process: After conducting a needs assessment with both instructors and learners, I designed and developed an in-person instructional intervention to bridge the gap between students’ current level of understanding of plagiarism and the level of understanding that instructors expected them to have. Following are a detailed design specification document, instructor's guide, and a participant's guide for this intervention.

Results: After the intervention was delivered scores on pre and post intervention assessments were compared as well as completed final writing assignments. Instructor and participants surveys were also completed. Assessments showed a 50-70% decrease in the incidence of plagiarism for students who completed the intervention. Survey feedback also indicated learners enjoyed the course. The intervention has gone through ed several iterations and continues to successfully prepare students for avoiding plagiarism.
